CLOTHING + COMMUNICATION
If I tell you there’s a man dressed in a black and white formal suit with a well-fixed tie, shoes and there’s another man wearing jeans and high-tops. Who would you expect the lawyer to be? Hands down, you’d choose the first option. You know why? Because, CLOTHES COMMUNICATE…
There’s no doubt that first impressions are based on not only how you smile and shake someone’s hand but also on what you wear. Clothing no longer only serves the purpose of protection, or conveying the social status, individual’s occupational and sexual differentiation. Clothing as a cue is important and has a major impact on our lives.
I mean c’mon, even superheroes are not superheroes without their suits and amours. For instance lets take Ironman, he’s nothing without his powered suit of armor. Clothing not only gives you an identity but also defines who you are and what you believe in, through your style or the lack of it. It is used as a non-verbal outlet to sending the right messages through your attire and attracting the right people in achieving your goals.
Instantly take a look at what you’re wearing right now, go ahead! Ask yourself, what are you trying to communicate through your clothes? Although we dress ourselves everyday, how often do we stop and think about it?
Don’t you think it’s high time we look again?
NOW, the next time you meet someone, consider the ABC’s of their Image and how it impacts your interaction,
YOU’LL BE SURPRISED!!
